'The North Sea' - Acoustic Version
Greetings friends and foes,
Happy to announce that the acoustic version of my track ‘The North Sea’, is now streaming!
This year has been a rough year, no doubt for everyone. It screwed with all my plans to release the next EP somewhere around now. I decided that I should put something out for you regardless.
This version of the North Sea is a raw as it comes. It is how I wrote the song and how I’ve been playing it on the street and at solo shows. It is a song about a sailor feeling guilty on a fishing boat as his crew are hauling up mythical creatures. I wrote the track it in a dark winter week back in 2017, trawling over poems and stories about such beast as the leviathan and the kraken.
I remember leaping for joy when I found the chord of F located somewhere near the end of the chorus. Well technically it's an Ab because I had the capo on the 3rd fret. :)
Here is a take I did a while ago by the sea in the Netherlands…
More recently, it has since been transformed into a hectic rock piece by the band. You can check that here…

But back to the acoustic studio recording…. The track is a one take recording. I didn’t do any more takes on the day in the studio with Eric because we thought there was something a little special about it. Granted, there are a few imperfections in this particular take: I ease into the first note slightly wobbly, and I am not the most consistent with some guitar strums in places. But at the end of the day, we decided that I probably could get the same damn chill vibes. Maybe I should have tried, but it’s too late now haha.
Anyway, below are some snaps of in the studio on that day…
Hope you enjoy the song.

Ps. The cover photo for the track was an analogue snap taken on Sylt, an island in the very north of Germany.
